October 30, 2026, 16:28

Defence officials discussed the security situation in the region

Strengthening protection against modern aerial threats and implementing joint defence projects were the main topics of a meeting between Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara and Minister of Defence of Moldova Anatolie Nosatîi.

The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen the protection of Moldova's airspace by drawing on Ukraine's experience in air defence, as well as prospects for further practical cooperation.

Military-Technical Cooperation

Particular attention was paid to implementing the Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation, which provides a framework for developing practical cooperation.

“Ukrainian interceptor drones and EW systems have already proven their effectiveness in real combat. That is why we are ready to share our experience with Moldova in countering UAVs, early warning, and exchanging information on air threats. We are also ready to help determine which assets are needed, and in what quantities, to strengthen security. We are ready to continue direct consultations,” said Minister of Defence of Ukraine Evgeniy Khmara.

The Ukrainian Defence Minister emphasised that the Agreement would mark another step towards more systematic mutual support between Ukraine and Moldova.

Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Anna Gvozdiar also highlighted the capabilities of Ukraine's domestic defence industry to enhance the security of the neighbouring country.

“Ukraine’s defence industry has modern technologies and unique experience that we are ready to share with our partners. It is important for us that these solutions help protect not only Ukrainian skies but also Moldova’s airspace. Ukrainian solutions can also bring practical benefits to our neighbours by strengthening their defence capabilities and security,” Anna Gvozdiar added.

Intelligence Sharing on Security Threats

During the meeting, defence officials also discussed the regional security situation and exchanged intelligence on threats facing Ukraine and Moldova.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Evgeniy Khmara thanked the Moldovan side for its consistent support for Ukraine.

“We share common values that Moldova is helping us defend. Thank you, Moldova, for standing united with Ukraine and for your support at all levels,” Evgeniy Khmara said.

Ukraine remains committed to deepening cooperation with Moldova, drawing on its combat experience and the capabilities of its domestic defence industry to strengthen airspace protection and enhance regional security.
