The technology has already proven effective in combat: enemy aerial targets have been taken down hundreds and even thousands of kilometres away.
Remote control as a new air defence standard
The technology’s development was set in motion through Brave1 a year ago. Since then, the solution has passed testing and scaling stages and is now being applied in practice.
Ukraine is the first country in the world to consistently implement remote control of interceptor drones, establishing a new standard in air defence.
“The pilot is no longer tied to a position. The drone is in the sky — control is from a secure environment in Kyiv, Lviv, or even abroad. This increases interception efficiency, mitigates risks for operators, and allows capabilities to be scaled without direct linkage to the frontline,” said Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Effectiveness and safety
The new approach delivers:
- enhanced interception of aerial targets
- safer conditions for operators
- scalable capabilities away from the frontline
More than 10 Ukrainian manufacturers have already integrated the technology across their systems.
The development of remote drone control is part of a systemic approach to strengthening multi layered air defence. In line with the President’s directives, innovations in airspace protection continue to advance, aiming to track every incoming target and neutralise at least 95% of aerial threats.
