Ukraine expands its arsenal of combat robots

June 12, 2026, 17:05

The pace of military robotisation is accelerating rapidly: for comparison, the figure for the whole of last year was 60 unmanned ground platforms.

Battlefield Robots: The Key Role

The development and integration of UGVs is one of the Ministry’s top priorities. Their primary mission is to save the lives of Ukrainian defenders.

Robotic platforms take on tasks in the highest risk zones, where human presence poses a direct threat to life. They are regularly employed for:

  • Logistics: delivering ammunition, supplies and provisions to frontline positions.
  • Evacuation: extracting wounded soldiers from areas under fire.

A wide range of systems has now been admitted into service. Among the recently codified innovations, notable examples include the NEO-1 demining robot and the Vepr logistics evacuation UGV.

Frontline Robotisation: Statistics and Scaling

The effectiveness of ground drones is confirmed by large scale operational results:

  • Over 50,000 missions (logistics and evacuation) have already been carried out with UGVs since the beginning of the year.
  • Rapid growth: Usage intensity rises monthly. In January, ground drones completed more than 7,500 tasks; by May, the figure had doubled to over 14,000 missions.
  • Direct deliveries: Military units have already received 1,028 UGVs worth more than UAH 487.2 million, procured via the arms marketplace DOT-Chain Defence.
